Nintendo Revolution specs... very plausible this time

Joe:
Got this from Gizmodo

Gizmodo Article:

According to Ars Technica, specs for the Nintendo Revolution have been outed by a Factor 5 employee going by the name (get this) Hans Solo. But if you can get past this guy’s being trapped in the past, he is also said to have leaked the Xbox 360 stats before they came out, so I’m prone to at least listen.
“The brains of the console are rumored to be a single dual-threaded IBM “custom” PowerPC 2.5 GHz CPU, with 256 KB L1 cache and 1 MB of L2 cache (L3 cache is rumored). The system will also sport a Physical Processing Chip (PPU) with 32MB of dedicated RAM, while the CPU itself will saddled up next to 512MB of system RAM. The custom ATI GPU solution is rumored to consist of a RN520 600MHz core, backed with 256MB of RAM and “32 parallel floating-point dynamically scheduled shader pipelines.” While the output will theoretically be capable of putting out 1080p resolution (higher even, at 2048x1268), Solo says that HD support has not yet been decided.”

Solo also mentioned that Revolution may even have an edge on the 360 and PS3 in the CPU/GPU area.

Warner say they can cut off iTunes

Warner exec Michael Nash said today that the major record labels could easily cut off the iTunes Music Store if Apple CEO Steve Jobs doesnt budge in the song pricing battle. He also said ''very few people people buy music from digital downloads''. He remians in my head, an idiot =}

Joe:
Ok...so Warner wants to raise song prices and since Jobs doesn't wanna do it...the threats start comming. How stupid is Warner? All they are gonna do by cutting off iTunes is piss off all the song buyers out there and justify them downloading Warners' songs for free. Again, I have to say... Dumb asses!

Eight charged over Star Wars pirate release

IOL: Eight charged over Star Wars pirate release

Eight people have been charged in the US in connection with the illegal release of the final Star Wars film before it appeared in cinemas.

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was released online the day before its worldwide release in May.

The piracy allegedly began when a screener copy of the film was stolen from a post-production facility where one of them worked.

The eight defendants, all from California, were charged with copyright infringement and face up to a year in prison.

Pixen: Good app for old school RPG game graphics...

Pixen is like Photoshop for pixel artists. It is clearly designed by people who know the needs of those working with sprites, icons and such. The tiny format of graphics demands a certain precision, and Pixen delivers that precision on tiny-format artwork.

Joe:
I can totally see this being a great app for creating graphics for an old school game (or new school). Haven't played with it yet, but from looking at the forums it seems it gets a lot of play.

Wiretapping Broadband

It seems the FCC can now tap your broadband connection. Last Friday the FCC released it's CALEA First Report and Order, which allowed law enforcement to wiretap VoIP service. The original CALEA omitted broadband "information services" from such wiretaps, but now the FCC somehow was able to sneak this in.

Joe:
Guess it was just a matter of time before Big Brother did this. I don't mind too much because I don't care if they want to listen to my VoIP phone sex...lol. I just hate the fact that they are gaining ground every day to what we see in Sci-Fi movies and TV shows.

Lionhead interview: The Movies Online

Lionhead interview: The Movies Online - Joystiq - www.joystiq.com

Games Press, a free resource for game journos across the world, carried out a slightly ‘tongue-in-cheek’ interview with Lionhead Studios about the online community features of their upcoming game, The Movies. The interview covers topics ranging from how people will be able to share their creations with other players, through to how loud the servers required to host the movies are.

The online segment of the game brings another level to the game beyond the files sitting on the user’s hard drive. You can get feedback on your movies from other players, alter the movies to suit your audience and as a result earn more virtual bob for your virtual box office.

How To Build a Game In A Week From Scratch With No Budget

GameDev.net - How To Build a Game In A Week From Scratch With No Budget

There are many great resources available to small, budget-conscious independent game developers today. On a public forum, in a counter-rant, I expressed this fact by bragging that if you gave me a week, a fresh install of Windows, and a good Internet connection, I could build a halfway decent game with no budget whatsoever. No, it wouldn't be able to compete with Halo 2 or anything (if I could create that kind of game in a week, I'd quit my day job), but it would be reasonably amusing and playable.

Tom Bampton, who runs the monthly Game-In-A-Day 'competition' (www.gameinaday.com ), said "You're on!" He then added an extra contingency – I had to do it without the benefit of one of the (free) game engines out there. I could only use a basic library / API.

Kid gets in trouble playing WOW...

A WOW (World of Warcraft) player was bragging on a WOW forum about how he was playing past his bedtime. Problem with his bragging was his mother also plays WOW and is also active on that same forum.

Yep, you guessed it!

He got stone cold busted when his mother read the post.
What a dumb arse...

The pee-powered battery is smaller than a credit card and can produce 1.5 volts from just 0.2 milliliters of urine.

Wonder if we will ever pee into our flashlights one day.

Pumped about PSP 2.0 hack? Don't forget about the Nintendo DS...

British Gaming Blog » Cracking the DS Wifi

With all the stuff going around with the PSP 2.0 firmware being cracked and Gizmondo now running unsigned code, it’s easy to forget about the other handheld that’s currently breaking blocks and opening new features to developers of homebrew. The DS.
You’ll find most of the homebrew development going on at the gbadev.org message boards where you can find projects such as a Speech Synthesizer with Keyboard input and the rather not-so-work-safe TickleGirl project.

Joe:
There is a bounty ($2000+) for the first person to crack the DS wifi. DS Wi-fi Bounty

Friend of mine got the PassMe in yesterday and will bring his modded DS over soon. The PassMe is a cable and connector that connects the GBA slot on the DS to its DS game slot. This will allow u to use various GBA flash roms to play DS games. Without the PassMe you can use the GBA flash roms to play GBA roms and homebrew stuff, but no DS games.
